You Bet, Ruth Bader Ginsburg's Legacy is Being Revised
"‘Extraordinarily Self-Centered’: As a Roe Reversal Looms, RBG Admirers Wrestle with Her Legacy"- Politico, June 10, 2022.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg died in 2020. So, to some of us it's surprising that the push-back against her decision not to retire took so long to gain traction. Of course, the current tipping point is that the conservative majority on SCOTUS is likely to gut "Roe v Wade."
Had she retired and maybe Stephen Breyer had too too such a horror might not be going to happen.
Even when there was gush about her cutes - e.g. the workouts - there had been some of us who were very aware that she should have taken one for the team. There could have been another stimulating job she could have gotten. Maybe teaching in a law school or leading a progressive foundation.
In a sense, she will be among those whose legacy will be positioned and packaged as she stayed too long.
Why she stayed seemed, as the critics now call it, to be absolute selfishness. It is inevitable that many women and many children who shouldn't have been born will suffer.
