Yes, Believe in Miracles

The first bit of the Obama Administration was the new president's signing into law the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009. Congress had bypassed SCOTUS' rejection of Lilly Ledbetter's contention of compensation gender discrimination at Goodyear Tire and Rubber.

Such a bypassing strategy is an option for blowing up SCOTUS' ruling today which essentially guts "Roe v. Wade." The Biden Administration sees the possibility of that. But that's a long way from the political ability to make that happen. 

As Insider reports:

"Biden reiterated his call for Congress to act, though Democrats have failed to get legislation codifying a federal right to an abortion passed into law. The party holds slim majorities in both houses and would almost certainly fail to get around a Senate filibuster that effectively requires 10 Republican senators to support any such bill."

The probability of Congress' taking action could dim after the midterms.

However, there is the lobbying power, wealth, and overall networking of of progressive law firms. They range from Dentons to Paul Weiss.

The global head of Dentons Joe Andrew had been in charge of the Democratic National Committee. He knows how to bet on the right horse. We recall his switching his support from Hillary Clinton to eventual winner Obama.

The head of Paul Weiss Brad Karp has been labeled a "change agent." He has access to the points of power in so many sectors. The guy gets around.

Political miracles could happen. 

Meanwhile, June 24, 2022 will go down in history as a sad day in America.

Timing Is Just Right for US Government to Create The Ministry of Magic

The good versus evil meme plays out over control of the Ministry of Magic. That's the delightful plot and setting for the latest sequel in the "Fantastic Beasts" film series. This one has the subtitle "Secrets of Dumbledore." The good side is represented by Albus Dumbledore and the evil one by Gellert Grindelwald. What hangs this all together is the need to protect the mystical creature Qilin  which can see into souls and foresee the future. Meanwhile Grindelwald has conjured up a fraudulent version of the  Qilin.  Magic, of course, is the way problems are solved and opportunities are seized in the film.
