Transparency Doesn't Get Savannah Guthrie Off Hook about Conflict of Interest in Amber Heard Interview

A lawyer could probably argue that Savannah Guthrie's interview of Amber Heard was not a conflict of interest. That's what lawyers are trained to do. Remember how Bill Clinton argued that his behavior with his intern wasn't really "sex."

Well, myriad legal experts would disagree with those lawyers, as the Insider article on the interview details.

Okay, Guthrie was transparent before the interview. She disclosed that her husband Mike Feldman, who operates PR firm FSG Global, do work for Johnny Depp's legal team.

But some legal experts don't believe that gets her off the hook on a conflict of interest. For instance, she could have absorbed from her husband hidden biases. Also, some assess that the interview had been a disaster for Heard. In addition, there is this complexity: Heard is appealing the verdict. Will that interview factor into the appeal? It could be irrelevant that Heard agreed to do the interview with Guthrie even though she was aware of Feldman's work.

What is surprising is that NBC allowed the interview by Guthrie to take place. There are other competent journalists at the network who could have conducted the interview.

Reflection: How could a sophisticated broadcasting center get into this kind of mess?
