The Glam Chase - So Often, So Much Tragedy Along The Way
"Disney’s under-pressure CEO [Bob Chapek] just made his biggest power move to date—and it has tanked morale" - Fortune, June 10, 2022
The head of Disney's TV Peter Rice got cut from the team. Insiders in broadcasting of all types condemn the move. However, the board approved it. It is backing Chapek.
That brings up the reality of the glam job. It's a vulnerable position. Actually those in it are usually targets. It takes genius political and social skills to survive - and possibly thrive. Former Disney head Bob Iger did just that. Might Disney parachute him back? Sounds good.
However, given the cult of fame in the US - the first celebrity had been Teddy Roosevelt's daughter Alice - the ambitious will still chase glam in their work lives. It looks so good.
That applies, of course, to landing a position in Big Law. Fortunately, though, as Subreddit Big Law is pointing out, more lawyers are treating that glam slot as a starter job. Take the fame, lock it into a resume, and go in-house or someplace else which is filled with what will eat you alive.
On today's Subreddit Big Law a former M&A junior lawyer reflects on not allowing that game to suck away who you are as a human being with a life to be lived. Here you can read it and reflect.
