Souring on Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sheryl Sandberg
From revered female saints to women we just don't like.
That's essentially the transition in the court of public opinion about two professional women who had been inspiring role models for female empowerment. They are Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sheryl Sandberg.
Of course, it's already old news that with "Roe v Wade" on the chopping block there is no current empathy with Ginsburg's decsion to stay on the job. Had she retired the Obama Administration would have been able to appoint a liberal justice. Also, her going might have motivated Stephen Breyer to also retire. That would have been another liberal justice.
Through horse-trading Ginsburg would have been able to land another plum job. But that didn't happen. Now, here we are with a conservative majority on SCOTUS. Reproductive rights could go first. Then rights that had been granted to those of alternate sexual orientations.
The same souring of public opinion is the fate of Sheryl Sandberg. Bloomberg chronicles the grievances against her. We already know about the allegations of the unauthorized use of corporate resources for her own personal projects. Those could involve violations of SEC reporting procedures.
But the most serious is the antitrust lawsuit filed by the states - Texas v Google. As another article in Bloomberg reports, it is alleged that she and Google head Sundar Pichai agreed to manipulate online ad auctions. If the allegations are proved then we know that Sandberg did participate in harming businesses.
Given that Sandberg is being stripped of her sainthood we wonder if she still will conduct her wedding as a major media event. Or, will she go low-profile.
In addition, her future prospects in business and in politics could be unraveling.
