"Jurassic World Dominion" - Old-fashioned Ridiculous Film Fun
So much for the power of critics. As Variety reports, among all the critics clustered on Rotten Tomatoes there was only a 31% approval rating for dino-sequel "Jurassic World Dominion." But the box office for this opening weekend is expected to total $142 millon.
Even though like most of you I lost a bundle in my investments this week, I eagerly ponied up the premium price for the film today.
It was ridiculous absolute fun.
At the top of the list were all those scenes of terrified humans fleeing the dino threat. Over and over again. Those scenes were so real that when I was driving home I feared that a dino would launch itself through my windshield.
There was also the urgent need to save those on planet earth from famine. The possessed scientist had created a mutant locust which was destroying what was growing in the fields around the world.
Also was the phenomenon of the human child hatched through DNA, not the normal sperm-meets-egg way. She turned out to a caring creature.
That brings us back to critics. With such unraveling of institutions they sure have been losing their abiity to be taken seriously. I recall the days when there were still English majors. We had to be up on what those critics were passing off as infallibility.
But some of us English majors managed to succeed despite all that absurdity.
For instance, Paul Weiss law partner and former US Attorney General Loretta Lynch had majored in English. Really.
Me? I make a good buck through creativity, which being an English major hadn't totally killed off. This evening when I returned from "Jurassic" there was an offer for me to join a financial firm as a part-time contract editor. The mission is for me to make the text more engaging. No, I didn't play cute. I accepted pronto. Yeah, on a Saturday night.
