James Patterson - Kvetching Like a Rich Brat

Maybe with aging - James Patterson is 75 - the wealthy mystery author is losing his judgment. And with that he could lose his readers.

In the UK's Sunday Times, he complains like a rich brat. The focus? He alleges that discrimination against white men as well as aging bias is preventing their earning a living in fields such as entertainment and publishing.

OMG. Those are glam fields. Who doesn't have a struggle getting into, holding on in, and acquiring upward mobility in those industries? Here is my article on that.

The exception would be those who have blood relatives in GlamLand. In addition, aging, beginning at about age 40 in America, can be hard on just about every worklife.

In order to put together a career in writing I had to enter through a back door: marketing communications. The New Yorker wasn't chasing after me. Only later, with a source of income from marcom could I set aside some time to "write" - that is in the traditional sense. I was in my early 60s when I published my first novel "The Fat Guy From Greenwich."

Today, as I await my new financial client to set up the training I knocked out Short Short Fiction. Here it is: "The Non-Equity Partner & The Chairman."

Most of us have had it too hard in our professional lives - including current crazy times - to put up with Patterson.

Patterson ponies up an apology. Here are details in Bloomberg.
