When Sex Work Is on Your Resume
"Pandemic shutdowns spurred workers in hard-hit industries to find alternative forms of income, yet many who turned to sex work to help make ends meet say they’re facing hostile work environments when returning to traditional jobs." - Bloomberg Law, May 25, 2022.
During the pandemic, as Dentons' global head Joe Andrew hammered in his oped in The Hill, not everyone had the WFH choice. He noted that some had to go into the workplace.
In addition, some had no work. They were without a job. If they turned to sex work, including showcasing their attributes on OnlyFans, they could wind up facing sex discrimination when they did land a traditional job. Targeted have been women and those with alternate sex identities. And lawyers representing them argue that sex discrimination violates the protections of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
Usually the trouble kicks in when the RTO former sex worker files a complaint at work about alleged sex harassment. The powers-that-be could then retrieve what they had previously done to bring in income during COVID. Usually those complaints settle.
The takeaway here could be: The kind of work you did at one time could be held against you. America's Puritan mores are still intact. Also stereotypes dominate about what are the proper persona and behavior for females.
