Tech and Dealmaking - FTC Now Has Progressive Majority
"The US Senate confirmed Alvaro Bedoya as a member of the Federal Trade Commission, forming a Democratic voting majority at the agency after months of deadlock." Bloomberg Law, May 11, 2022
That should send a chill through both tech and dealmaking. With a progressive majority in the FTC its chairperson Lina Khan can move full speed ahead with her priorities: privacy and antitrust. Bedoya's special expertise is the intersection between privacy and technology.
Until now FTC action had been slowed by the deadlock on the commission between progressives and conservatives.
The negative for law firms is that M&A activity could decline further. That had been a lucrative niche for transactional practices. Should that continue layoffs could begin.
