No, You Don't Want to Be a One-Trick Pony ...

The unthinkable keeps unfolding in the global and US economy. Watchers of the legal sector, such as Thomson Reuters Peer Monitor, warn about possible slowing demand in some practices. Obviously, law firms which are one-trick ponies are highly vulnerable.

Although known as a “Wall Street” law firm, Paul Weiss is diversified in its practices. The Law360 Practice Group of Year Awards  recognized that broad scope. For 2021, Paul Weiss, chaired by Brad Karp, won the Law360 “Practice Group of the Year” awards in seven categories:

Appellate

Banking

Class Action

Life Sciences

Media & Entertainment

Mergers & Acquisitions

Technology.

In addition, its multi-disciplinary Sustainability – Environmental Social Governance (ESG) Advisory Practice positions it for a variety of transactional and litigation assignments. Increasingly, corporations are seeking guidance for how to navigate the ESG values revolution.

The undertow anxiety is in winding up becoming the “Next Disney.” Way back in Spring 2020, Paul Weiss was the first among US law firms to launch such a practice. Later, as the law firms Chief Sustainability Officer David Curran points out in an April 2022 Law360 interview, other law firms adopted that model.
