Marisa Darden Had 16 Months to Mull Over Family Priorities - This Could Go Down in Legal History Tagged "Just Like A Woman'

"Marisa Darden withdrew as the Cleveland-based US attorney to “prioritize family,” an unusual move three weeks after receiving Senate confirmation as the first Black woman to lead the Northern Ohio district." - Bloomberg Law, May 18, 2022

She will return to private practice at Squire Patton Boggs. She had been there since 2019. Right now her profile is not up on the SPB website. But, here is her profile on LinkedIn.

Meanwhile, all that political strategy and hustle by Ohio US Senator Sherrod Brown has gone poof. He, along with GOP Ohio US Senator Rob Portman, has to return to square-one to choose another candidate who, of course, will have to be approved by the US Senate as well as the White House and the Department of Justice.

Those of us who had done our career path on the corporate route know this: Family and personal matters are often cited in abrupt exits. At the time no one believed that was the reason. But no one dared speculate in public about another possible factor which might have figured in. Obviously, we got it that the situation had been sensitive.

Darden had about 16 months to think becoming US Attorney through. Also, we are aware that being employed at a major law firm such as SPB is quite demanding. When she had been here since 2019 surely she was also attending to family matters.

Her sudden change of direction could throw shade on all women and especially women of color.
